We’re delighted to announce the appointment of our very own Helen Wild as Equinox’s new managing director.
Having joined as a Cardiff University journalism graduate in 2007, Helen has risen through the ranks, working with clients including STAEDTLER UK and Welsh Government and leading many award-winning campaigns.
She’ll be responsible for leading an ambitious business plan in her role as managing director, taking over from former MD and founder, Eryl Jones, who moves into the new role of Executive Chair.
Here’s what Helen had to say about the news:
What’s going to be your focus in the new role?
Without giving too much away, my focus will be on continuing to provide our clients with the very best service — constantly challenging ourselves to deliver even more creative and results-driven campaigns; there’s an ambitious and exciting growth strategy in place; and lastly, but just as importantly, there’ll be a refreshed emphasis on workplace well-being, helping to maintain a positive and productive team.
What was your path from graduate to managing director?
I’ve held nearly every position there is at Equinox! I started as an Account Executive, moving onto Account Manager and later Account Director (with senior titles in between.) Most recently, I spent two years working as Associate Director developing our integrated offer. It’s been a great place to develop my career as I’ve been exposed to all disciplines of comms, while being lucky enough to work with some incredible colleagues and mentors along the way. It also helped that my career has grown in parallel with social media. I’d been using Facebook in the early days when it was open only to students and I could see its potential as a PR tool. New social media channels exploded onto the scene, others came and went, and newspapers got replaced by shiny new publisher channels. I embraced, and thrived on, change. This, combined with my passion for social media, allowed me to carve a role for myself and open-up lots more opportunities.
What’s the best thing about working at Equinox?
The team — there are incredibly talented and passionate people at Equinox who put their all into creating the best campaigns for their clients and are an absolute joy to work with. We’re also fortunate to work with an incredible mix of clients which ensures no day is ever dull!
Any advice for people hoping to follow in your footsteps?
Take control of your career. Don’t just expect the path to be laid out for you — carve it. In our industry, nobody truly knows what comms roles are going to look like in ten, even five, years’ time, so seek out information, teach yourself new skills, and challenge yourself to do things better.
