Interning with Eq | Chelsea Tame

Equinox’s summer internship programme really gives students the opportunity to gain hands on experience within a marketing communications role.

My experience at Equinox, as a third year Marketing Management student, has helped shape my skills and given me the confidence to pursue a career in the field.

Entering a new workplace environment can be daunting – but the team at Equinox couldn’t have been more welcoming!

On day one, I arrived at the office to be welcomed by my mentor Lucy, who whipped up a special coffee for me (there are guidelines to make the perfect, most delicious coffee at Equinox) and started to go through my worklist for the week which had been carefully prepared.

Having a mentor really makes a world of a difference as you have someone to refer to for questions and someone to check in with from time to time – it’s also great as you have someone to have lunch with on your first day so you don’t feel completely alone!

Set up with your own laptop, email address and worklist you can get to work straight away, I was given real responsibility and the opportunity to work on a number of live campaigns for some of Equinox’s most high-profile clients.

The majority of my tasks involved developing content for social media channels for STAEDTLER, Cadw, Savills and Cambrian Railway – I used this as the opportunity to get creative all the while taking into consideration the overarching message and tone required for each client. I also supported on writing press releases, dealing with media, developing event listings as well conducting research into micro- influencers for an exciting new campaign (coming soon!).

But perhaps the most interesting part of my internship was being able to support and be a part of the filming for a short advert for STAEDTLER - this was a completely new and exciting experience for me and made me realise the intricate detail that goes into developing campaigns like these.

During my internship I also attended one of the ‘Medieval meets Modern’ events developed and organised by Equinox - Paint and Prosecco – where I helped set up the event and then got to enjoy a session of painting and prosecco at Castell Coch!

Personally, I think one of the best things about Equinox is the positive workplace environment.

Everyone works extremely hard and as a team but still makes time for cake and bubbles for everyone’s birthdays (I was lucky as there were 4 in 1 week!), short Love Island catch ups and even picnics outside on sunny days during lunch.

So, whether you are looking to develop your PR and social media skills, broaden your creativity skill set or just to gain hands on experience within a successful communications agency – then the Equinox internship programme is for you.
