Effective Storytelling & Campaign Planning

Equinox was commissioned by The Big Lottery Fund in Wales to develop and deliver a series of full day training courses to ensure that individual Big Lottery-funded projects have the skills they need in PR and digital communications to help them promote their work locally to key project stakeholders.

Outputs:  we collaborated with the client to develop a bespoke full day’s training course for up to 20 delegates per session.  The training course was delivered by two of the Equinox City & Guilds Accredited in-house trainers with a Fact Pack given out at the end of the session with key facts and planning templates for ongoing use by participants.  The bilingual training course slide deck was also prepared with robust speaker notes to allow the Big Lottery Fund team to deliver more training sessions using the collateral in the long term.  The course content covered:

Story telling: What makes a good story? Essential elements / who to tell and how  and a group practical writing exercise around Your story (5Ws) / target audience / key messages / tips for writing and tailoring content / multimedia tips / social media advice

Finalising the comms plan: Choosing the best communication channels; measuring campaign success; completing your own comms plan; pitching your story to media; handling negativity: what is a ‘crisis’? Dos & Don’ts

Media training (group exercise): How to manage interview requests & delivery / brief spokespersons; interview protocol and key messages; Practical session: life in front of the camera
