Wales’ prestigious annual marketing awards, formerly known as Canmol, have returned this year with a new-look that will put the country’s very best marketers on a UK stage.
The CIM Wales / Cymru Marketing Awards feature 12 categories – ranging from advertising to PR and digital to data – with four of Wales’ winners automatically going through to the professional marketing body’s UK-wide Marketing Excellence Awards in London.
Winners of the Marketer of the Year, Marketing Team of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year and Agency of the Year categories will all go on to represent Wales on a national level in 2017.
Other categories include:
- Best use of Digital Marketing
- Best Integrated campaign
- Best Advertising campaign
- Best use of PR
- Best use of Creative
- Best use of Content Marketing
- Best use of Data and Analytics
- Best Not-for-Profit strategy or campaign.
Cardiff-based creative comms agency, Equinox, which won the award for best overall marketing campaign at last year’s event, went on to gain UK recognition and believes that the new format will help to further showcase the wealth of marketing talent in Wales.
Director, Zara Cottle, said: “Going on to win the Innovation in Public Sector category at the UK-wide CIM Marketing Excellence Awards is a great achievement and important to us both internally and externally. It demonstrates to clients that agencies outside London can be at the forefront of creative thinking and marketing excellence. It also gives the team confidence in their skills and ability to go on and be the very best in the UK.”
Arriva Trains Wales’ Head of Marketing, Paul Tapley, whose team won an award at last year’s event agrees that it is a “fantastic endorsement”, adding: “The two best outcomes for any professional marketer are when their actions achieve the required results and when their lead body recognise these efforts.”
Chair of CIM (The Chartered Institute of Marketing) in Wales, Jade Tambini, said: “Since launching Wales’ first dedicated marketing awards back in 2008, the event has grown in both size and prestige, and we’ve celebrated countless ground-breaking campaigns and outstanding marketing professionals.
“We’ve listened to Wales’ marketing community and have introduced a fresh, revitalised approach to the 2016 awards with new categories and consistency between other countries and regions, to give Wales’ very best marketers the chance to be celebrated on a UK stage.
“Our event’s former identity, Canmol, means ‘to praise’ in Welsh – and that is exactly what we’ll continue to do. Each year Welsh marketers demonstrate that Wales is a country at the cutting edge of the marketing industry, bursting with creativity and talent, and we look forward to celebrating our community’s achievements at the CIM Wales Cymru 2016 Marketing Awards.”
Entries must be submitted by 30 September 2016 and can be uploaded via cim.awardsplatform.com. The shortlist will be revealed on 17 October 2016 and winners announced at a lavish awards ceremony at Cardiff’s Portland House on 23 November 2016.
The Awards’ headline sponsor, advertising agency Hello Starling, is looking forward to supporting the event for a second year. Managing Director, James Robinson, said: “We critique marketing campaigns all the time, so we know how tough it is to cut through the noise; to create something that truly makes people think and feel. That’s why we feel so passionately about celebrating the talented people who make this happen and we’re proud to be supporting an event that gives outstanding marketers the recognition they deserve.”
