First Great Western

During the past 12 years, Equinox has been commissioned to undertake a number of projects spanning the whole spectrum of communications for First Great Western, who provide high speed, commuter, regional and branch line train services carrying more than 70 million passengers a year.

Our Mission

These projects include the launch of the new Class 180 train, the launch of the new Greater Western franchise and the launch of the new-look High Speed Train (HST).

Equinox has also been commissioned to implement business-to-business campaigns, assist the press office with crisis management (Ladbroke Grove and Hatfield), community relations campaigns and provide out of hours media on-call service.

Our Approach

Launching the franchise in a year-long contract, Equinox was responsible for all national media coverage, media relations activity and the three high profile launches.
The official launch involved the unveiling of a new-look HST at London Paddington with regional launches at Bristol and Plymouth.

This was complemented by a high profile PR campaign targeting travelling public, regional, national and trade media, staff, politicians, investors and stakeholders.

In the business to business campaign, Equinox targeted business sections of the media and organised a high profile stand at the biggest business exhibition in Wales, winning the best stand award.

For six years, Equinox used its experienced and well-informed staff to provide a reliable out of hours media on-call service responding to any enquiries about company operations and responding to requests for live and recorded broadcast interviews.

The Result

Equinox has consistently gained high profile media coverage for First Great Western and provided valuable hands-on support at a time of heightened activity.

A considerable number of successful media events have been complemented by numerous campaigns and community initiatives.
