Eryl is the owner and managing director of Equinox and he has steered it to become one of the leading and respected independent communications companies in Wales.
A first language Welsh speaker, he has been involved within the communications sector for more than twenty eight years and is a strategic management consultant with expertise in managing the reputations of high profile organisations.
He was PR Manager for the RAC and director of public affairs for the British Railways Board in Wales and southern England before establishing Equinox in 1996.
As well as leading on many of Equinox’s own communications training courses he is also a trainer at Cardiff University for the Open for Business Courses, a programme of professional development courses for businesses.
Eryl is the chairman of Menter Caerdydd, the body responsible for promoting and expanding the use of the Welsh language in business and within the community in the capital city. He is also on Welsh Cycling’s Board of Directors.
In his spare time he enjoys sport, in particular rugby and keeping fit, and often takes part in 10k runs, half and full marathons.
Zara has nearly 20 years experience in the PR and marketing industry, devising and implementing successful campaigns across the UK on a national and regional basis and across consumer and business-to-business briefs.
Zara joined Equinox ten years ago from London where she worked for eight years in top agency Bell Pottinger and then in house at Sainsbury’s Head Office. She brings with her a wealth of experience across all communication disciplines and is responsible for the strategic direction of all clients at Equinox. In her role as company director and Head of Communications, Zara leads the account teams across a wide variety of sectors including tourism, retail, transport, healthcare, construction, regeneration, charity and government.
Zara also delivers various communications training courses to businesses, Universities and The National Assembly for Wales. She also works alongside MD Eryl Jones to implement the agency’s own business plan, managing the development of the agency to ensure that Equinox remains one of Wales’ top consultancies.
When she’s not working, Zara enjoys playing tennis, cooking, socialising, classical music concerts, politics and spending time with her daughter Rose. Having studied French at degree level and lived in France for a number of years, Zara also enjoys regular trips to France to keep her fluent French up to scratch.
Helen joined the Equinox team in 2007 after graduating with a BA Hons in Journalism, Film and Media from Cardiff University.
In her role as Account Director, Helen leads the consumer team at Equinox, which is responsible for implementing creative, fully-integrated PR and marketing campaigns for a wide range of clients including Cadw, STAEDTLER UK, Savills and The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
After receiving the title of Outstanding Young Communicator at the CIPR PRide Cymru Awards in 2011, Helen joined the CIPR Cymru Wales Committee where she manages the group’s e-newsletter communication and helps to raise the profile of the industry in Wales.
A Welsh speaker from Swansea, Helen is a Cardiff University trainer, co-hosting courses on social media topics from Twitter to LinkedIn and social media strategy to blogging. She loves all things social and can be found writing her fashion and lifestyle blog, British Prep, in her own time.
Emma joined Equinox Communications in the summer of 2013 but is no stranger to PR. She has been providing integrated marketing and comms campaigns for a wide range of B2B and consumer FMCG brands across the UK since 1992.
As an Account Director at Equinox, Emma manages a high calibre team to deliver award-winning bi-lingual marketing, PR, stakeholder management and social media campaigns across Wales and nationwide. Key clients include Wales’ largest house builder, Persimmon Homes; the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen; Welsh Government-funded partnership Fly-tipping Action Wales; Savills’ Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff Bay and leading cancer care provider, Marie Curie.
Out of hours, Emma loves the great outdoors and is a keen rambler and horse rider.
A former journalist, Jamie joined Equinox in October 2013 after working in house at Torfaen Council.
Jamie spent eight years with Media Wales before joining Torfaen where he picked up the Chartered Institute of Public Relations ‘Best Use of Social Media Award’ for his work on a winter maintenance campaign that included an Elvis-themed viral video that reached more than half a million people.
In his role as Account Manager, Jamie combines his love of social media with his media experience to deliver innovative campaigns to clients including Cadw, the National Trust, STAEDTLER, Savills and Creative Rural Communities.
Jamie enjoys music and loves to play the guitar. You should also ask him to show you a magic trick, he spent years providing entertainment as a close-up magician and still had the odd trick up his sleeve!
Becky joined Equinox in September 2012 having spent a successful summer interning for the company, during which time she worked on the delivery of communications strategies for clients from across a variety of sectors.
She previously studied for a BA English Literature degree at Cardiff University, enjoying modules in fiction, poetry, drama and media.
Working on high-profile campaigns for clients including Cadw, STAEDTLER and The Chartered Institute of Marketing has seen Becky get stuck into all manner of comms work – from events and photocalls to strategies and budgets.
In her role she is responsible for managing the positive reputation of her clients through a combination of tactical media relations, the delivery of engaging and appropriate press and marketing copy, an awareness of social media/online advancements and an ongoing creative approach.
During her spare time Becky takes a keen interest in fashion and is forever spending too much money on the high street.
She cites Topshop, H&M and Urban Outfitters as her weaknesses.
Sophie graduated from Cardiff University with an MA in International Public Relations and Global Communications Management in July 2014.
In her role as Account Executive, Sophie uses her strategic knowledge of social media, digital marketing, event planning and media relations to manage digital projects, implement high-profile campaigns and achieve excellent results across her team’s client accounts.
Sophie has been an integral part of the team since October 2013, working with a variety of clients including STAEDTLER, Savills, the Retreats Group and Cadw.
Prior to joining Equinox, Lewis established his own greetings card company where he was responsible for running and managing the website and for all online marketing activity. As a small online business owner, Lewis understands the importance of using the latest in digital technology to develop an operation. Since joining Equinox as an Account Executive five months ago, Lewis has put his digital experience to good use managing fully integrated online marketing campaigns for a wide range of clients including care providers, shopping centres, independent schools and public sector bodies including Fly-tipping Action Wales and Swim Wales.
In his spare time, Lewis is a keen sportsman and plays cricket and football for his local teams. His other interests drinking Gin & Tonic, sweet potato fries and watching Blackadder.
Robert joined Equinox in June 2015, bringing with him extensive web, print and social media experience from high-profile public sector bodies in Wales and Scotland.
A graduate of Aberdeen University, where he obtained an MA in History, Robert has a background in digital communications and print production. As part of the Scottish Parliament’s Public Information team he advised on the launch and development of social media accounts, wrote and produced podcasts, oversaw the launch of a pioneering SMS service and developed copy for web and print.
More recently, as part of Cadw’s Marketing and Publications team, Robert oversaw the website of the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, contributed to high-profile marketing campaigns and produced digital and printed resources to promote visitor attractions across Wales.
In his spare time, Robert enjoys drawing, graphic design and buying more tea than is strictly necessary.
Cheryl has been part of the Equinox team since early 2014 when the new Database Services department was established. She has nearly 30 years experience within direct marketing and database management, primarily as a database administrator for a variety of public sector organisations and private businesses. Clients have included Cadw Membership, Visit Wales, The Ministry of Shipping, NHS Retirement Fellowship Membership, Estyn, Smokebugs!, Bradford Exchange and Jazz UK.
Cheryl has worked on the Cadw databases and membership scheme for over 20 years and has also visited many of the fantastic sites in Cadw’s care, taking time to get to know the custodians and other staff members. She administers the membership scheme, dealing with member calls on a day to day basis and works to segment databases for marketing activity for the Equinox communications team.
As well as database management, she has also headed up a variety of projects for inbound contact centres, managing quality and reporting, integrating responses with other sources such as web and post for clients such as Visit Wales.
Outside work Cheryl enjoys playing darts for a local team , going to quiz’s and baking with her two granddaughters. She has recently brought in a new member to her family, a lovely snow white West Highland Terrier called Mitzi.
Amanda has been part of the Equinox team since early 2014 when the new Database Services department was established. Amanda has been working in the marketing sector for nearly 30 years mainly concentrating on running database management accounts for clients such as the Ministry of Shipping, Cadw, Jazz UK, NHS, Bradford Exchange and Visit Wales.
Amanda has vast knowledge of managing databases for clients, including running membership schemes, segmenting databases for marketing campaigns and development and management handling. She was recently involved in setting up a new working venture with Bradford Exchange and ran a team of 15. With varied experience over a long period of time, Amanda is experienced in data security issues and working with subcontractors to manage multiple data sources.
She has worked with Visit Wales and Cadw for over 20 years and helped set up the new contact centre, which was responsible for all telephone and internet enquiries for Visit Wales.
In her spare time, Amanda’s interests range from decorating to playing in a local pub quiz team. She loves Scotland and spends as many weekends as she can with her daughter who lives in Inverness.
